This is the view from the Avalon Inn on Cuttyhunk, the outermost of the Elizabeth Islands off Southeastern Massachusetts, where I’ve been invited to spend a couple of days at the Cuttyhunk Island Residency. I got here yesterday, but this past week, San Diego artist Kara Greenwell has been painting her version of this scene right on the lawn.
She was out here when I got here, wearing overalls and a hot pink Cuttyhunk T-shirt, dancing as she worked. Kara paints abstractions, not landscapes. She has never worked outside before.
