Solar flares have been intensifying lately. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center predicted one for June 1-3, lighting up our night skies with auroras and roiling our geomagnetic fields. The sun will erupts with high-energy photons, which speak a solar language that Milisa Moses records.
is a gardener, an interdisciplinary artist, and an alchemist. She facilitates opportunities for nature to speak through sunlight, placing photo-sensitive paper outside along the Outer Cape to catch rays, shadows, and the gentle brush of foliage. Her exhibition Sun Writings is on view at Farm Projects in Wellfleet through June 9.
Her photograms – I’ve only seen them online – dance with ephemeral glimmers of light and hushed breaths of shadow. Some of them feel as orchestral as a J.M.W Turner painting. Others, such as Betelgeuse (Marconi Series), above, simply whisper. You know the allure of a whisper: What’s being said? Is it private? Is it meant just for me? What hints does it offer about the whisperer?
